The Master's and Ph.D. in Science and Mathematics Education provides conceptual and methodological elements for the formation of professionals with a researcher profile, able to follow a academic career as well as to train teachers capable of being "trainers of trainers", going, therefore, beyond theor own professionalization.

Objective
Promote and carry out research in the field Science and Mathematics Education, qualifying and improving the researcher of Basic and Higher Education, in order to develop and foster educational processes in Science and Mathematics under the framework of contemporary demands.

Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry teachers who work at different levels of education, as well as professionals from other related areas who wish to dedicate themselves to research in Science and Mathematics Education.
Recognition
Field of Science and Mathematics Education
This field was created in CAPES (Brazillian Government) in September 2000. The first course approved by the field in October 2000 was the master's degree in Teaching, Philosophy and History of Sciences, developed jointly by the Federal University of Bahia and the State University of Feira de Santana.
The field committee of the area, on this occasion, consisted of professors Eduardo Mortimer, Oto Néri Borges, Rômulo Lins, Frederico S. de Sousa Cruz, Roque Moraes, Terezinha Valim Gonçalves, Tânia MM Campos, Adelaide Falijoni-Alario, Nélio Bizzo and Representative of the Field, Marco Antônio Moreira.
During the months of April and May of the year 2000, ULBRA was attended by the field in several consultations in order to create the master's degree in Science and Mathematics Teaching. The university was successful with his project in 2001 with the favorable opinion of the recommendation. The field of ??Science and Mathematics Education has a deep concern to never give up rigorous quality criteria. In this sense, the qualification of faculty, research activities and publications in refereed journals, both nationally and internationally, are among the first and most important criteria to be used.
Postgraduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education
The Postgraduate Program in Teaching Science and Mathematics was evaluated by the Area Committee at its meeting from November 19 to 23, 2001, with an opinion favorable to the recommendation. It was recommended by the Scientific Technical Council (CTC) at its meeting on December 13 and 14, 2001, with concept 3, with issuance of Official Letter CAA / CTC / 276 of December 17, 2001. It officially began its activities in March 2002.
